Where accuracy is lost

Three situations where CT–scan registration goes wrong

Around 75 % of placement accuracy is decided before planning even starts — by how the CBCT and scans are acquired and registered. These are the three cases where it most often fails.

01

Crowns and metal restorations

Scatter from crowns and fillings blurs tooth surfaces on the CBCT. The software aligns the scan to the artefact instead of the tooth — and the whole guide shifts with it.

CBCT with metal artefacts from crowns
How we solve it. For our team this is routine. You get the protocol in Part 1 of the course and work through it on real case files.
02

Distal free-end defects

With no teeth behind the gap, nothing anchors the registration distally. A small rotation at the front becomes millimetres at the implant site.

CBCT of a distal free-end defect
How we solve it. A separate data protocol for this situation — covered step by step in Part 1.
03

Few remaining teeth

With three or four teeth left, every reference point carries the whole registration. One weak point and the guide rocks on the arch.

CBCT with few remaining teeth
How we solve it. We change the data you collect, not the planning. You will see exactly how during the hands-on.
Our system

Three data protocols. One for every clinical situation.

Accuracy is not luck and not the software. It is the right set of data for the case in front of you — chosen before the first click in planning.

Protocol 1

Standard

STLDCM

Intraoral scan and CBCT, registered on stable teeth.

When we use itPartial edentulism with sound teeth and few restorations.
In the course: Part 1, scenario 1
Protocol 2

Radiopaque tray

STLSTLDCM

Scan of the arch, scan of the tray and a CBCT with the tray in place.

When we use itCrowns and metal artefacts, few remaining teeth.
In the course: Part 1, scenario 2
Protocol 3

Double scan

DCMDCM

Two CBCTs: the patient with the appliance, and the appliance alone.

When we use itFull edentulism and free-end defects without support.
In the course: Part 1, scenario 3
10,000+operations planned with surgical guides
2017planning guides for clinics in the EU and USA
0.1 mmregistration check before every plan
Cases

Planned in software. Placed exactly there.

Two real cases from the same protocol you will learn: the plan, the guide and the result.

Programme

Two parts of the Digital Guide Protocol

The same protocol our CAD\CAM team uses every day, condensed into one day: first the data, then the guide.

Part 1

Data without error

Where 75 % of accuracy is decided.

M1CBCT and scans for guided surgery
  • What a CBCT for planning must contain
  • Intraoral scan quality you can register
  • Checking data before you start
M2Registration: three protocols
  • Standard: STL + DCM
  • Radiopaque tray: STL + STL + DCM
  • Double scan: DCM + DCM
  • Choosing the protocol for the case
M3Verifying the registration
  • How to confirm alignment before planning
  • When to rescan instead of correcting
Part 2

Standard guide

From implant position to a file ready for printing.

M4Planning the implant position
  • Prosthetically driven planning
  • Implant libraries and sleeve systems
  • Planning checks before design

Questions

Frequently asked

Something else? Write to sales@maxilla-medical.net or on WhatsApp.

Who is the course for?

Implantologists and dentists who place implants and want to plan their own surgical guides — whether you have never planned one or already order guides from a lab. No prior experience with planning software is needed.

What language is the course in?

Everything is in English: lectures, hands-on, materials and support after the course.

Which laptop do I need? Does a Mac work?

A Windows 10 or 11 laptop, 16 GB RAM recommended, and a mouse. RealGUIDE runs on Windows. If you only have a Mac, write to us before booking and we will find a solution.

When is the software installed?

We install RealGUIDE and two implant libraries of your choice remotely by 23 November. You only need to be at your laptop for a short session we agree in advance.

What exactly is the RealGUIDE licence?

An official RealGUIDE CAD+ licence for one month: two implant libraries of your choice and one guide export. That export is meant for your first real case, which we plan together in the 1:1 session.

What happens after the licence month?

You continue on your own RealGUIDE licence. As an official 3DIMME partner we offer participant pricing — ask us during the course or after.

Who prints the guide?

Your own lab or your practice printer. We tell you which material and print parameters to ask for, so the guide comes back as planned.

How does the 1:1 session work?

An online session with Georgii Tryfonov within 30 days after the course, booked at a time that suits you. You bring the CBCT and scans of your patient; by the end of the session your guide is ready for export.

Do I get CME points?

Yes, 9 CME points according to BZÄK/DGZMK guidelines, with a certificate of attendance at the end of the day.

How do I pay? Is VAT included?

By invoice from 3D-MAXILLA HNT GmbH. The price is 800 € including VAT. Send the request form with your practice details and we issue the invoice within one business day; your seat is held for 7 days while it is paid.

What if I cannot come?

Full refund up to 30 days before the course (by 29 October). After that there is no refund, but you can transfer your seat to a colleague or move to the next date.

Why only 12 participants?

So that both speakers can check every participant's work during the hands-on. With more people the practice turns into watching.
